Pressing Pause

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

As if you couldn’t tell, my free time has dipped to zero.

Since blogging isn’t a profession for me, it has to be set aside for a while. In real-life, I have a project that lanches during the holidays next month. As a result, my work deserved (and demands) my full attention.

I probably won’t even have a chance to read any Tablet PC news or blogs (major bummer y’all).

But I did want to say thanks to all who’ve left comments, and those who’ve read silently. I can’t wait to get back to this blog, because I just love my Tablet PC, and I want to talk all about it.

Maybe I’ll have some good topics for when I return. I look forward to catching up with you in a few months!

Is Free Really Free?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

A friend of mine was telling me about how he plugged the cable from his wall into his television and discovered he had had a nice set of basic cable channels. He wasn’t paying for cable at all, he didn’t hack into his neighbor’s line, he didn’t do anything sneaky - just turned out that the cable TV line into his house was left “on.”

Now here’s my question for you. If he decided to leave the cable connected and watches the shows, is he stealing?

Is it dishonest to get something for free that other people pay $40 a month to receive, and by all rights, you should be paying for as well?

Let’s discuss.

CEO Uses Same Tablet As Me

Forbes has a nugget Q&A article about PassAlong Network’s CEO Dave Jaworski and his Fujitsu 4010D. Looks like I’m in good company!

Neglected Tablet Fights Back

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

You know, I learned a lesson the other day.

As I’ve mentioned, I have had to put my Tablet aside for a while since my recent workload has prevented me from using it much. I used it Friday at a meeting, then after I put it in my Baggins, I never used it again. Not once. All weekend!

Well, we had my youngest daughter’s 7th birthday party. We had Church things. We had to prep for Halloween. Too much happening to have time for the Tablet.

So, this past Monday, when I went to hear a speech and take notes, you can guess what happened. Dead Tablet PC. And not an AC coutlet in sight. Yes, I had no choice but to scramble for a pen and jot notes on the back of a folded memo I just happened to have in my bag (I don’t carry backup notepads).

It could be that a Tablet owner knows no greater shame than having people see you put a dead Tablet back in your bag and dig for pen and paper.

I think my Tablet was trying to tell me something. It missed me.

My lesson? Keep the Tablet charged, even when you aren’t using it. Of course, a backup battery would have helped, but that isn’t in the budget right now.

Also, I learned I really hate using paper. But I will keep a notepad in my bag from now on, just in case.

Now I’m Somebody

To quote Navin Johnson, in “The Jerk.” I have just been flooded with Comment Spam. Thank goodness WordPress offers comment moderation and approval. Otherwise, this blog would be filled with comments congratulating me on a “great blog” then offering to help locate cheap Viagra!

Not too fond of the spam, but at least I guess it means that I am getting an audience.
